William’s parents were John Thornock and Ann Bott.

From family history, little William did not die on the journey west with an “unknown company”:

The “Job Smith Company arrived in Salt Lake City in September of 1854 almost seven months after leaving England with the Mormon Pioneer Immigrants. Their third child, William was born 20 June 1846 in Whitwick England and traveled with them, most likely grieving sorely for the loss of his little sister Mary Ann, age 4, on the plains of Kansas during the trip. Life was hard in Salt Lake full of great trials. The family often kept alive by eating the roots of weeds dug out of the ground. About a month after their entrance into the valley, 12 October 1854, William went to join his sister Mary Ann in heaven. He was only 8 years old.”
