William Morgan Miles is the fourth of nine children born to Sampson S Miles and Catherine Lucretia Hickerson, both from Tennessee.
Sampson passed away in 1853. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catherine and her children and joined the Benjamin Clapp Company to journey west to the Great Salt Lake Valley.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, premature birth, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Cholera, a bacterial disease caused from contaminated water, infected many of the travelers. The Clapp Company was with a party of about 40 Saints and arrived in Utah on September 19, 1855.
It is unknown as to when or why 15-year-old William Morgan passed away, or where he is buried. I did not find any information on William as to where he died or was buried.
