William Franklin Glade was born to James Glade and Mary Dyer, both of England.
The Glade family traveled from England to America to join with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to go to the Salt Lake Valley. They joined an “unknown company” to make the journey. While still in Wales, the Glade’s had a son, William Franklin, that was born in 1857 and died 1858. A daughter, Mary Jane, 18-months-old, traveled with her parents from Wales and on to the Salt Lake Valley.
While in Florence, it is reported that, “Mary was in delicate condition and passed away and is buried by the wayside.” There is no information about William Franklin being born or passing away. They named this third child after the child that passed away in Wales. Nothing is mentioned in company journals, nor in family histories except for one comment by a family member: “William Franklin Glade was born in jul 1861 and died in Jul 1861 near Florence, Douglas, Nebraska. I am assuming that Mary may have died in childbirth.”
William is on the roster of an “Unknown Company,” but no further information. William is buried on the Mormon Trail West.
