Trine Olsen is the son of Anders Peter Olsen and Ane Johanna Mortensen, both of Denmark. The family immigrated to America on the ship “Manhattan.” Upon arrival they traveled west to Nebraska where they joined the Leonard G. Rice Company to trek to the great Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Before the company left Nebraska, measles invaded some of the members of the camp. One-year-old Trine died the day the company departed on August 22, 1867. The next day, her 2-year-old brother, Martin, passed away and was buried along the trail.
