Thomas Morgan is one of eight children born to Thomas Morgan and Hannah Tolton. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the family joined the Jacob F Secrist / Noah T Guymon Company of 1855 to journey to the Great Salt Lake Valley.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. When the company was in Kansas, 12-year-old Thomas died from measles and fever. He is buried in Kansas, about 50 miles West of Mormon Grove.
