Sarah “Sally” Ford is the fifth of 11 children born to John Ford and Rebecca Chandler, both from England. After family immigrated from England to America, they joined the Job Smith Company to journey to the Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. As the family approached Laramie, Wyoming, 8-year-old Sally suffered from “mountain fever” and passed away. She is buried on the plains near Laramie, Wyoming.
