Sarah Clark is the first of ten children born to Edward Watkins Clark and Luch Ashby, both of England. After immigrating to America, the family joined the Henry W. Miller Company, to journey to the Great Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Sarah, 6-years-old, slipped under the wheels of the wagon on September 6, 1852. She died the next day and was buried near the Sweetwater, Wyoming in a casket made by her father.
