Sarah Bachman is the child of Jacob Bachman and Elisabeth Suter, both from Switzerland. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Bachman Family immigrated to America from Switzerland, they traveled to Nebraska. There joined the William H. Dame Freight Train in 1862 to travel to the Salt Lake Valley. According to the company roster, in October Elisabeth gave birth to their sixth child, a daughter they named Sarah. The baby passed away that same day and is buried along the trail west in Wyoming.
Two journal entries of Saints recorded: “Sarah died enroute, before the family arrived in the valley on 29 October 1862.”
The "reminiscences" of Jacob Zollinger mentions that "The Bachman family lost a newborn baby on the trail.”
“…a baby was born but died the same day. It belonged to a family named Bachofen.”
