Robert John Easthope is the son of John Easthope and Sarah Taylor, both of England. The family immigrated to America on the ship “Emerald Isle.” After their arrival, they traveled by train to Nebraska where they joined the John Holman Company. With other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the company departed Nebraska on Sept 1, 1868 for the Great Salt Lake Valley. Shortly after departing, Sarah gave birth to a son, Robert John.

Disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. After traveling west for two weeks, 2-week-old Robert John passed away on September 14. That same day, Robert's older sister, Harriet, died. There were hot days, and cold nights on the plains and many saints, especially the children, were not prepared for the hard journey. Robert John and his sister are buried near Green River, Wyoming.
