Richard Dye was the son of Jonathan Dye and Charlotte Johnson of England. They had two children when they sailed the Atlantic Ocean on the ship “Tascarara.” They landed in Massachusetts where Charlotte gave birth to Richard. The Dye family, along with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, joined the Henry W. Miller Company for the Salt Lake Valley. The company left August 5, 1862.
When the company approached Laramie, Wyoming, 1-year-old Richard Thomas passed away and was buried on the Mormon Trail. The cause of death is unknown, but what is certain was that the elements of the journey were harsh on little children. Histories of the company mentioned that many children passed away on the journey, but didn't necessarily specify names. specifically mention anyone.
