Richard Duffin is the first child born to Edward Duffin and Margaret Gledhill from England. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the family immigrated to America and joined an unknown company to trek west to the Salt Lake Valley. Richard was 5 years old when he began the journey.
Disease, injuries, lack of food, and weather were some of the greatest challenges faced by the pioneers. Richard was among those who became ill and died. He was wrapped in a blanket and buried along the trail.
