Rasmus Rasmussen is the son of Michal Rasmussen and Ingeborg Sorensdatter, both from Denmark. After the family immigrated to America, they joined the Christian Christiansen Company of 1857 to trek west to the Great Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. A family history recorded, “Due to exposure, my one brother took sick and died in Laramie, Wyoming.” Rasmus was 9-years-old and is buried on the Mormon trail in Wyoming.
