Mette's Story
Birth: March 11th, 1853 | female | in Rødding, Rødding, Viborg, Denmark

Mette's parents were Christen Sorensen and Dorthe Kjerstine Dahl Clemensdatter. Mette's father passed away before the rest of the family came to America. Mette was their only child.
After coming to America Mette and her mother Dorthe joined the Jacob F. Secrist/Noah T. Guymon Company to come to Utah. The company departed from Iowa on June 13.
Many of the Saints in the company came down with cholera. Mette Marie passed away just weeks after beginning her journey from cholera.
Little 2 year old Mette is buried just 8 miles west of the Big Blue River, in Kansas.
Charles Smith reminiscences of the journey and recorded:
“Tuesday 26 we laid by this day waiting for the Brethren who were hunting horses[.] in the even[in]g they returned without finding them[.] this eve[n]ing we held a meeting and felt to rejoice[.] Br. Secrist & Pugh went back to try to find the horses[.] died this day in the Danish Division Mothe Marie Clemensen Christiansen age 3 years”
