Mary Eliza's parents are James Marsden and Anna Eliza Caladene, both from England.

The Marsden's came from England with 2 children, their ship landed in Pennsylvania. It was here that Anna Eliza gave birth to their 3rd child, a daughter, Mary Eliza.

A year later, they joined the Ira Eldredge Company to go west to the Salt Lake Valley, they left July 1 from Nebraska.

On August 4, they were at Ash Hollow in Nebraska when Mary Eliza passed away.

Family tradition says that Ann Eliza was nursing the child as they rode on the wagon and the child died of sunstroke.

One year old Mary Eliza is buried near Ash Hollow in Nebraska.

Here is a statement from the company journal for that day:

“Aug 4th Travelled 4½ h. Nooned near Ash Hollow. Afternoon 3¼ hours Camped on the Platte. Had a Heavy Thunder Storm with Rain”
