With a desire to move back to Utah, they joined the Chester Loveland Company. The company left September 26. Marion only survived two weeks. He died approximately 20 miles east of Stony Point, Nevada and was buried on the banks of the Truckee River.
Henry B. Richard’s journal it is recorded: “Mon Oct 12th/57. Was on guard last night until 12 with the Stock over the river, and slept out the remainder of the night. I was appointed Cap't of the guard belonging to our ten,—returned to camp in the morning when I learned that Bro Geo Billing's Child died just before day-break. We resumed our journey in good season and rolled on to "Stoney Point" about 20 miles. good road all day. In the evening administered to Bro Geo Nebeker's Child. in connection with a number of Elders.”
Marions family on a journal reads: “Jerusah's first child, a boy, Marian Billings was born at Eagle Valley (now known as Carson City) Nevada. He only lived a few weeks and passed away October 10, 1857 and his little body was laid to rest on the banks of the Truckee River near Stony Point Utah. This was a very trying happening to a young girl of seventeen. It almost broke her heart. She said she would know the spot again if she ever went that way. The child's grave was covered with stones and a fire built over it to keep wild beasts from digging into the grave.”
