Margaret Caroline Davis is the first of twelve children born to George Davis and Mary Ann Sparkes, both from England. In January 1854, George and Mary Ann married, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and immigrated to America on the ship “Golconda.” After arriving in America, the Sparkes traveled to Missouri. There, Mary Ann gave birth to Margaret Caroline.

With a desire to journey to the Salt Lake Valley to be with other Saints, they joined the William Adam Empey Company. While waiting for the company to complete preparations for the trek, 10-day-old Margaret passed away. The company departed for the west on July 15, 1854 for Utah.
