Lorenzo Isaacson was the fourth of eight children born to parents are Neils Isaacson and Bertha Katherine Aagensen, both from Norway. As converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Isaacson Family emigrated to America from Norway and joined the John Riggs Murdock Company to journey to the Salt Lake Valley. The company left on July 4.
Five weeks later, 1-year-old Lorenzo suffered from dysentery and passed away. He is buried by the Mormon Trail in Nebraska.
According to the company history: “one woman had to ride with her baby who was very ill with what was referred to then as summer complaint--a dysentary form of illness. By the time they reached Florence Nebraska (the settlement which bloomed on the ashes of Winter Quarters), the baby died. That night, a little grave was dug by the wagon, a sheet was put around the thin little body and then was laid in the shallow grave. They didn't even have a box to put him in. The mother cried as though her heart would break.”
