Lisette Nyffenegger is the daughter of Gottlieb Nyffenegger and Anna Elisabetha Loosli, both of Switzerland. After immigrating to America, 3-year-old Lisette, her siblings and parents joined the William Hyde Company of 1864 to journey with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Great Salt Lake Valley.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. During the first week of September, Lisette passed away of unknown causes. Her brother, Johannes died the same day. They are buried together east of the Black Hills on the Mormon Trail West.
