Leopold Singleton is the son of Francis Singleton and Amelia Ann Williams, both of England.

The Singleton family immigrated from England to America by sailing on the ship “Hudson.” When they arrived in America, they traveled to Nebraska. They joined the Warren S. Snow Company to trek to the Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Many members of the company suffered from cholera (a bacterial disease caused from contaminated water). Among the victims were 3-year-old Leopold and his father. Leopold died on October 12, 1864, and his father passed away a few days later. Leopold is buried east of Fort Briger, Wyoming.
