Leah's parents were John Edwards of Wales and Eleanor Charlotte Waylett of England.

The Edwards with four children, crossed the Atlantic Ocean to America. They then joined an “unknown company” to travel across the plains to the Salt Lake Valley in Utah.

When coming across the plains, in September, 4 year old Leah passed away. There was “mountain fever” among some of the Saints, which could have been why Leah passed away. They were so close to the Salt Lake Valley, arriving there on 12 September.

According to the company's notes, little Leah is buried near Simpson's Hollow in Wyoming.
