Leah Gedge is the daughter of Rachel Bush and William Gedge from England. As new converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints they planned to join other Saints in America. They had one little girl, Leah, who was 2-years-old when they immigrated to America.
After arriving in New York, they traveled to Nebraska and joined the Homer Duncan Company to trek west to the Salt Lake Valley. Rachel was expecting another child. As they journeyed, William became ill and was often confined to the wagon. Rachel drove the wagon. Unable to hunt, their food supply soon dwindled. Rachel gave birth to twin girls whom they named Mary and Lois.
On the August 13, 2-year-old Leah passed away, and is buried alongside the Mormon Trail near the Platte River, in Nebraska. Just two weeks later, the twin babies Mary and Lois both passed away and are buried together on the Mormon Trail in the Black Hills of Wyoming.
