Josephine’s parents were Niels Jørgensen Garff and Marie Jacobsen, both of Denmark.

The Garff family left Denmark and sailed for America. On the ships roster, Josephine is listed as “Trine”. When they arrived here, they joined the Matthias Cowley Company. Many Danish Saints joined this company. They left 15 of June, 1857.

Along the way, Niels passed away after the company left Fort Laramie, Wyoming. They buried Niels sometime in August beside the way, in a crude, shallow grave somewhere between the Missouri River and the Rockies (in Laramie, Wyoming).

A couple of days after her father died, little 2 year old Josephine passed away also. No information was found as to why she passed away.

She is buried west of Fort Laramie, Wyoming on the Mormon Trail West.
