Josephine's Story

After crossing the Atlantic Ocean and landing in New York, Josephine was the fourth child born to Joseph Griffiths and Margaret Price, both of England.
Long with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the family joined the Edward Stevenson Company, leaving Nebraska on June 26. When the company was near Chimney Rock in Wyoming, 5-month-old Josephine came down with diarrhea and passed away. She is buried near Chimney Rock in Wyoming.
In the company journal, Thomas Wasden wrote: “2nd. Fixed up the wagons till dinner time. Pleasant day and in sight of Chimney Rock twenty miles ahead. Traveled 10 miles with a little rain in the evening with the death of Brother Griffith's child, five months old, died of diarreah.”
