John Daynes is the son of John Frederick Nicholas Daynes and Eliza Miller, from England. When the family sailed the Atlantic Ocean to America, they traveled to Nebraska and assigned to the Homer Duncan Wagon Company to for the Salt Lake Valley, Utah. When they arrived in Florence, Nebraska, Eliza gave birth to a son, the eighth and last child to join the family. John Thomas Daynes was born in July of 1862.
On July 22, 1862, the family and other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, left Nebraska, westward bound. Sometime, in September as they approached their destination, 2-month-old John Thomas passed away. The cause of death is unknown and is buried along the Mormon Trail.
