John Morris Glen is the third of seven children born to John Marshall Glen and Jane Morrison, both of Scotland. The family (parents and three children) immigrated to America by sailing on the ship "Cynosure." After arriving in New York they traveled to Florence, Nebraska and joined an “unknown company” to trek to the Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Somewhere along the journey west, 3-year-old John Morris Glen passed away of unknown causes. He is buried along the Mormon Trail West.
