John Alfred Hansson (Anderson) is the third of eight children born to Pehr Hanson and Christina Johansdotter Härling, both from Sweden. The Hansson family immigrated to America and then traveled to Nebraska to join an “unknown company” to journey west to the Great Salt Lake Valley. The company of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints left August 7, 1863.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Somewhere along the Mormon Trail, 3-year-old John Alfred passed away of undocumented causes. He is buried along the trail west.
