Jens' Story

Jens Peter Andersen is the son of Anders Christensen and Dorthe Kirstine Nielsdatter Sondrup of Denmark. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Andersen family immigrated to America sailing on the ship “Emerald Isle. Many of the passengers suffered from illness. As a result, some were hospitalized after arriving in New York. Among those hospitalized included Anders, Dorthe, and some of their children. Anders passed away from illness.
After recovering, Dorthe and two of her children, Jens Peter and Karen, traveled to Nebraska to join the Fred C. Anderson Company. On October 3, 1868, the company left Nebraska for the Great Salt Lake Valley. After traveling for a week, Jens Peter passed away on October 11 and buried in Wyoming along the Mormon Trail.
