Jeanette (Janet) Chambers is the daughter of Francis William Chambers and Jean Smith. The family immigrated to America on the ship Britannia. After arriving, the family journeyed to Nebraska, stopping in Ohio where Jeanette was born. Jeanette's mother passed away from childbirth and is buried in Ohio.

The family continued their travels to Nebraska and joined the William Henry Chipman Company which left Nebraska on July 12, 1866. Disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. In Wyoming, baby Jeanette passed away from lack of nourishment and is buried in Wyoming along the Mormon Trail.
