Jean (John) Baptiste Droubay was the second of 12 children born to Pierre Appolinaire Droubay and Josephine Blondiaux, both of France. Pierre and Josephine and two of their children immigrated to America from France. When they in America, they traveled to Nebraska and joined the William Hyde Company to trek west with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the eat Salt Lake Valley. The Company left Nebraska on August 9, 1864.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. After traveling for a month, 6-year-old Jean passed away of unknown causes and is buried along the Mormon Trail.
