Jane Jackson and her twin sister Mary are the daughters of John Jackson and Alice Robinson, both of England.
John served as President of the Rawtenstall Branch before he was called on a Mission. John died in the mission field of appendicitis. Alice was expecting and decided to take her 4-year-old daughter, Sarah Ann to America. Alice and her daughter sailed to America on the ship, “Constitution.” After their arrival, they traveled to Nebraska and joined the John Gillespie Company with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bound for the Salt Lake Valley.
On the journey west, Alice gave birth to twin girls, Jane and Mary. It was recorded that the babies became chilled, and passed away. They lived only one day. Jane was laid to rest with her sister in a shallow grave on the Mormon Trail in Nebraska.
Recorded in a journal by John Thomas Lazenby: “Twins of a Sister Jackson Widdow of John Jackkson who Died at Hull. The Twins were Born on the way and Died Next Day.”
