Jacobine Marie Larsen is one of seven children born to Anders Larsen and Maren Jensdatter, both of Denmark. After the family immigrated to America, they joined the Ansil P. Harmon Company of 1862 to journey with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Great Salt Lake Valley.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. As the company approached Sweetwater, Wyoming, 3-month-old Jacobine Marie died of undocumented causes. Her older sister Jensine passed away the following day. Both are buried alongside the Mormon Trail, not far from each other.
