Hulda Jackson is the daughter and one of three children of Seth Jackson of Connecticut and Abigail Burleson of New York. In 1842, Seth Jackson passed away in Nauvoo, Illinois. Three years later his wife, Abigail, died in Iowa. Two of the Hulda's siblings, Solomon and Abigail, died before they could journey west with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Hulda was the only surviving family member and was adopted by an aunt and uncle living in Iowa. With a desire to journey to the Salt Lake Valley, they joined the James C. Snow Company of 1851.
Disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Hulda, 12 years old, fell victim of cholera (a bacterial disease caused by contaminated water) and died. She is buried Nebraska along the Mormon Trail.
