Henry Peck was the first of seven children born to Harrison Grey Otis Peck and Margaret Ann Reed Angier, both of Massachusetts. His parents were married in Massachusetts in 1836.
The Peck family joined the John Tidwell Company to travel West with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Salt Lake Valley.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. One report indicates that Henry was a victim of cholera (a bacterial disease caused from contaminated water). He passed away on July 13, near Skunk Creek in Nebraska and is buried along the Mormon Trail.
