Henry Goddard is the son of George Goddard and Elizabeth Harrison, both from England. After immigrating to America, the Goddard family joined the John Tidwell Company to journey to the Great Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. About a month crossing the plains, cholera (a bacterial disease caused from contaminated water) invaded the camp, infecting many members of the company.

From Elizabeth Harrison’s history: “About a month into the journey, 2 year old Henry was stricken with cholera as was his brother George and others in the company. “

Henry is buried near North Platte in Nebraska.
