Heber Jones is the son of Jeremiah Jones and Mary Wilson, both from England. After immigrating to America, the family joined the Joseph Horne Company to journey to the Great Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. While the company was camped near Chimney Rock, 4-year-old Heber passed away of unknown causes. He is buried there on Sunday, August 25, 1862.
