Han Jensen was born to Peder Jensen and Kirsten Jensdatter both of Denmark. After emigrating from Denmark to America with other Danish members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they joined the Christian Christiansen Company. They left on June 15 to journey to the Salt Lake Valley.
However, before the company left Missouri, Hans’ younger brother, Jens, passed away from cholera. Peder took the remaining children and traveled across the plains.
According to the history of Hans’ older sister: “Little brother Hans was not well when they left Council Bluffs. On the 9th day out, he died of typhoid fever and another grave was placed by the trail.”
Young 9-year-old Hans is buried on the Mormon Trail in Nebraska.
