Frederick Torgersen is the youngest of ten children born to Even Torgersen and Oline Reiersdatter, both from Norway.
The family immigrated to America, sailing on the ship “Antarctic.” Once in America, they visited family and then traveled to Nebraska to join the Peter Nebeker Company. With other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints, the Company departed Nebraska for the Salt Lake Valley on July 26, 1863.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, premature birth, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. The company arrived in Utah at the end of September. Histories from his parents indicate that 1-year-old Frederick passed away in Utah in December, 1863 of undocumented causes.
