Flora Loader Jaques is the daughter of John Jaques and Zilpah Loader of England. When the family was on board the ship sailing from England to America, Flora caught the measles. She never completely recovered.
The Jaques family joined the Edward Martin Handcart Company with many other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to journey to the Salt Lake Valley. Just one week entering the Utah territory, 2-year-old Flora suffered from dysentery and passed away. She is buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery with a headstone honoring her young life.
Family history reads: “Upon the family's arrival, they were taken by Franklin D. Richards to his own home. It is recorded that little Flora looked like a piece of marble. She was buried in Franklin D. Richards' lot.”
However, according to the Salt Lake Cemetery Records, she is buried in the Salt Lake Cemetery. The Salt Lake Death Records show she died of “dysentery.”
