Elizabeth Bullock is the daughter of Henry Homer Bullock Sr. and Sarah Griffin of England. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they immigrated from England to America. In Florence, Nebraska they joined the Ansil P. Harmon Company to journey to the Salt Lake Valley in. The company departed Florence on August 1. One month later on September 4, Sarah gave birth to a little girl, named Elizabeth Platt.
Their travels had been arduous. The company experienced severe weather and the trail was rocky and rough. These conditions caused their wagon to overturn. Sarah was injured and traumatized. She was unable to nurse her baby. In an effort to keep Elizabeth alive, they gave her molasses and water soaked with bread crumbs but their efforts were futile. Their precious baby passed away near the mouth of Parley's Canyon, and is buried nearby. away.
In a record by John Daniel Thompson he wrote: “Sunday 28th we started at 7.O.Clock. 5 miles brought us to where the road runs near "Big Muddy"[.] 1 mile farther we crossed it. 1 mile from the Crossing we Struck the Old road (good Camping for two miles) drove 4 Miles & nooned at the Soda Springs (Blessed Elizabeth Platt, Daughter of Henry & Sarah Bullock) down near the platt[e] River Nebraska Territory 6 Miles below Larimie.”
William Priest’s journal it reads: “Oct 4, A child died in the night and was bured this a.m Befor Starting forward at 7.30 a m we commence going uphill here until we cross the Big Mountin or Parley Park Divid[e].”
