Elizabeth Nelson Stuart is the daughter of William M. Stuart and Sarah Bellas, both from England. When Elizabeth was 14 years old, the Stuart family immigrated to America to join other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to journey across the plains to the Great Salt Lake Valley.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Somewhere along the arduous Mormon Trail, Elizabeth passed away of unspecified causes.
