Elizabeth Boneham is the daughter and 13th child of John Boneham and Elizabeth Welch of England. Elizabeth died in 1861 following the birth of their 14th child. John remarried and some of his children joined them in immigrating to America on the ship “Arkwright.” After arriving, they traveled to Nebraska and joined the Daniel Thompson Company, departing for the great Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1866.
Disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. When the Company had traveled to the Wyoming territory, 6-ear-old Elizabeth passed away of unknown causes. She is buried beside a creek on the plains of Wyoming along the Mormon Trail.
From the journal of Christian Hansen Jensen: “Sunday the 29 we traveled 14 miles. Two children were buried. The road was good as well as the weather which was fairly warm. We camped at night beside a little creek.”
