Elizabeth's parents are Samuel Stanworth and Nancy Nutter, both of England. Elizabeth was their first child. They came across the ocean when Elizabeth was only three months old.

After the family arrived in America, they joined with the John Smith Company, which left for the Salt Lake Valley on June 22.

Along the journey west, whooping cough broke out among some of the children in the company. By the time that they were at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, quite a few of the children had passed away and were buried along the Mormon Trail.

Little Elizabeth Ann caught the whooping cough and passed away. Seven month old Elizabeth is buried along with other children by Fort Laramie in Wyoming in an unmarked grave.
