Elizabeth Allan Gordon is the seventh of 11 children born to William Reid Gordon of Ireland and Annie Duncan Frater of Scotland. The Gordon family and four children, immigrated to America sailing on the ship “Cynosure.” While on the ship, 3-year-old Elizabeth was infected with measles and passed away just before landing in New York. Her parents buried her in Castle Gardens, New York.

From her older sister’s history: “I have heard Mother say a Danish woman came on board at Liverpool, whose children developed measles, 22 died before they landed at New York. The last one to be taken was my sister Elizabeth. They were so near to land when she died, she was not buried at sea but her grave was made in Castle Gardens, N.Y. Susan says at the foot of Broadway N.Y. Perhaps it is the same place.”
