Dusine Jensen Thosted is the daughter of Jens Pedersen Thorsted and Ane Kirstine Jensdatter Boesen, both of Denmark. When the family prepared to leave Denmark for America, Jens refused to go, so Ane took the children and left Denmark on the Ship “Emerald Isle.” While on the ship, many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints became ill from contaminated food and water. Several passed away and were buried at sea.
Upon arriving in New York, Ane and several of her children were hospitalized due to their illness. Ane passed away in the hospital. After her death, Dusine, her older brother, Jens, and two other siblings traveled to Nebraska and joined the Fred C. Anderson Company bound for the Utah Territory. That Company was the last emigrant company to cross the plains.
On October 24, the day that they arrived in Salt Lake City, 2-year-old Dusine passed away and was buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
