David’s parents are James Henry Hammond of Ireland and Mary Ann Howell of England.
They had traveled over the ocean, met each other and married in 1858 in Delaware.
The family joined the Ansil P. Harmon Company and departed from Nebraska on August 1st to travel to the Salt Lake Valley.
On the journey west Mary Ann delivered a son, David born September 21, but the journey was hard on the newborn, and he passed away 2 days later.
He is buried in Wyoming on the Mormon Trail.
