joined the Edward Martin Handcart Company. With other members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they pushed and pulled handcarts in their efforts to reach the Great Salt Lake Valley.
The company began their trek late in the season and was challenged limited food, severe snowstorms, frigid temperatures. A snowstorm made it necessary to camp for about nine days. During that time, according to a history on Deborah Bushnell: “While crossing the plains a man fell a victim to starvation, as did one of the children, and died at Rocky Ridge.”
The individuals mentioned in the history were David Sr. and his child David. David and his father were buried with others at their camp at Rocky Ridge in Wyoming.
