Clara Lucas is the youngest of seven children born to parents are Edward Lucas and Ann Morley of England.

Clara’s father, Edward, did journey with his family to America. Ann took the children and sailed the Atlantic. After arriving in America, they traveled to Nebraska where they joined the Hensen Walker Company to come journey to the Salt Lake Valley. With other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the company left Nebraska on August 12, 1865.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, premature birth, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. While crossing the plains, Clara became ill and passed away of unknown causes. She is buried along the Mormon Trail West.
