Charlotta Bengtson is the daughter of Erik Bengtson and Anna Greta Erickson, both of Sweden. Charlotta was engaged to Anders Gustaf Warnicke. Her family, along with Anders, immigrated to America on the ship “Cavour.” On board the ship cholera (a bacterial disease caused from contaminated water) infected the family. After arriving in America, they traveled to Nebraska and joined the Abner Lowry Company to travel west. With other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the company left Nebraska on August 13, 1866 for the Great Salt Lake Valley.
On August 17, one week after departing on their journey west, Anders passed away from the effects of cholera. Charlotta lived three more weeks, and died from the same illness on September 8, 1866. Eighteen-year-old Charlotta is buried in Nebraska, along the Mormon Trail.
