Annie's parents are Peter Hughes of Wales and Elizabeth Evans of England. After they joined the Church they came to America with their two daughters. Their ship landed in New York and they stayed there in New York for a few years where Elizabeth delivered their third daughter, Annie Lloyd Hughes.
They joined the Joseph Horne Company to come west with in 1861. On the journey, the little girls rode in the back of the wagon, along with Peter, who had been ill and unable to walk the journey. Elizabeth had to pull the wagon with their belongings and her family in the back. In her journal, she said that on long days of traveling, sometimes she was so tired that she slept while she walked.
Because the journey was long and hard on everyone, their little Annie passed away.
Little fifteen month old Annie, is buried along the Mormon Trail near Sweetwater, Wyoming.
Three days after they arrived in Salt Lake City, Peter died and is buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
