Anna Johnson was the first children to parents are John Johnson and Anna Aolson Guðlaugsdóttir, both from Iceland. Both John and Anna had joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Iceland and met when planning to emigrate to America. They were married on board the ship.

When they arrived in America, they went to Iowa before traveling west with the James S. Brown Company to the Salt Lake Valley. The company was scheduled to leave June 13. While in Iowa, they were blessed with a daughter, Anna. Shortly after departing, 1-year-old Anna passed away and is buried in Iowa by the Mormon Trail West.

According to a journal of the journey, one company member mentioned the following: “…we had two deaths on the road, a baby and an old man. They were buried by the road side.”
